Eurizons 2006

Project Description

The project took place between the 23rd of August and the 8th of September 2006 and was organized by GLEN, the Global Education Network of Young Europeans. In these nearly three weeks a group of 50 engaged Europeans traveled 2.500 km from Riga to Strasbourg by hitchhiking in order to promote the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) through an innovative, media-effective and colorful campaign.

On this tour 8 national events took place, organized in the countries the hitchhikers were passing. The events were prepared in big cities by the national partner organizations and local Eurizons teams and were addressed to young engaged people and to local organizations offering them panel discussions, workshops, movie screenings, theater plays or concerts of local bands. At these events the hitchhikers organized their own campaigning activities, addressed also to the general public, and they took part in the discussions about global issues like poverty reduction, HIV/AIDS prevention and sustainable development. The last event took place in Strasbourg, were the hitchhikers were welcomed in the European Parliament by 20 Members of the Parliament. On this meeting the hitchhikers presented the results of their European Tour and agreed with the Parliamentarians on further steps to be taken on both sides towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
